THE THINLY-SLICED CARROTS
fall away from the knife.
Potatoes simmer,
A turkey basks
In the oven heat.
We wipe our hands on a tea towel,
Straighten our aprons.
Our hair curls from the heat and
The last-minute preparations
Of our Thanksgiving feasts.
Minnie and me, one hundred years apart,
Sharing the same kitchen routine,
The same spirit of joy.
Friends, Family, Food -
Blessings from God.
